There were major changes in WWE in 2022. With Vince stepping down and Triple H taking the role of head of creative, we saw a lot of changes already, but all wrestling fans can see that it is far from a finished product. Here are three things that could improve with WWE in 2023.
No More Unbeatable Champions
One of the biggest issues that fans have with WWE is the fact that nobody can beat Roman Reigns. While I have no problem with this, fans don’t like it because he is also not seen on television as often.
I think that Roman will lose his championships in 2023, and hopefully it will start a trend of slightly shorter title reigns.
While having unbeatable champions like Roman, the Usos, and GUNTHER make them look like monsters and people will tune in for the possibility of them losing, there do come the time that there are no challengers for the champions and that’s when you start to get random challengers for the titles.
Roman losing the titles and taking a little time off in 2023 might not be what’s best for the bottom line for the company, but it might be what’s best for the future of the company.
Stop Open Challenges for Championships
While the open challenge concept has been around in wrestling forever, in the past few years, it has been happening more and more often.
Whenever I see an open challenge, the first thing that I think is that the company just don’t have any plans or ideas on what to do this week.
I am a firm believer that everyone that challenges for a championship in any company should have a clear case to why they should challenge for any title that they are challenging for.
This also goes into random number one contender matches and multiman matches to determine the next challenger. There is usually no reason why these people should have a potential chance to get a shot at a title.
Instead, they should base it off of recent victories and storylines as well as the quality of the opponents that they beat for the chance.
Roster Depth
Most of the recent signings and wrestlers that were brought back since Triple H to control have been underwhelming.
After looking at the Raw and Smackdown rosters for research, I realized something crazy. There aren’t many wrestlers on each roster.
For the size of the company and the amount of time that they have to fill every week on television, I thought that they would have a roster the size of AEW’s roster.
I think that some of these signings are just to get more wrestlers on the roster. Some of them probably don’t even have a direction or known future storylines down the road.
When Vince was in control, people complained about repetitive matchups, and I finally saw the reason why. Because they don’t have many wrestlers there.
In 2023, I can see more wrestlers getting signed or brought up for the only purpose of being a warm body for the established stars to beat.
