Tony D’Angelo stands by the story that Wes Lee injured him intentionally to qualify for the NXT North American Championship ladder match, and has taken aim at Lee as a result. Tonight, he intends to put an end to Lee’s title reign – as they go one on one with the belt on the line. The threatening Dijak is also looming, looking to bring his ‘hard justice’ to NXT, and having taken aim at both Lee & D’Angelo since returning to the brand.
Drew Gulak Shows Hank Walker Some Technical Wrestling Tricks
Before this main event, we’d get the 2022 Drew Gulak Invitational. The former main roster star is here to share his skills, with Hank Walker as his special guest. First he’d take aim at NXT newcomer Luca, teaching him the pain of the Crossface Chickenwing – and Luca instantly tapped out.
Taven was next, an experienced amateur wrestler, who would be able to sprawl with Gulak but gave up his leg for a kneebar – and Taven instantly tapped out. Finally, we have NXT Level Up regular Myles Borne. Borne would be able to hold his own with Gulak, but was tapped out to the Dragon Sleeper.
Finally, Charlie Dempsey would stomp down to the ring – someone who could not only hang with Gulak, but will very likely surpass him in time. If Gulak wants to step up to a REAL wrestler, Dempsey is always ready to go. Gulak would refuse, and Dempsey challenged Hank Walker to a match for next week, and Gulak has a week to get Walker ready.
Wes Lee Fights To Remain NXT North American Champion
Lee & D’Angelo would lock up in the ring, with D’Angelo hitting a German Suplex for an early two count. Lee would be sent off the ropes and built up some speed before sending D’Angelo into the ropes with a headscissor takedown. Stacks would give The Don some advice on the floor, saying to go for a single leg – but Lee would block this twice.
Lee would be taken into the corner for some shoulder tackles, before a hammer throw across the ring. D’Angelo was tripped up before a shooting star press to the back. Lee would hit a high speed dive to the floor, keeping the pressure on D’Angelo.
Back in the ring, Lee would apply a front headlock, with D’Angelo breaking free with a deadlift suplex. Lee would be able to get the side headlock applied, with D’Angelo again powering free. Exploder Suplex would send Lee into the corner, before a short arm lariat in the middle of the ring for a near fall.
D’Angelo would go after the knee on the mat, before taking Lee to the floor and slamming him knee first onto the announce table. Lee would fight back in the ring with some kicks to the leg, following by some body punches. D’Angelo would have his knees buckled with a punch to the jaw, before Dijak would take out Stacks on the floor. Backflip Kick from lee would land, and he remains NXT North American Champion into 2023.
