In Louisiana, an Alabama man was shot during following his father’s funeral on December 19, 2022. Alaska resident James Blake (66) attended a funeral with the son of the deceased, 51-year-old Michael Lancaster.
According to witnesses, the two had been arguing prior to the funeral and that argument continued at repast following the service.

Their argument escalated into a fight between the two and eventually, Blake pulled a gun and shot Lancaster three times. Emergency services and the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived at the family house not long afterward.
Lancaster was rushed to the hospital with head and upper body wounds but survived his injuries. James Blake also received treatment before being arrested. He is currently jailed at the West Feliciana Parish Detention Center on attempted second-degree murder charges. Blake’s bond was set at $175,000.
Oftentimes, funerals are a celebration of life, a send-off. However, the arrangements and just being present can be stressful on top of grief. Why do you believe these two came to blows and eventually gunfire after the funeral?
