In Maharashtra, India, authorities arrested three Nigerian men alleged to be involved with drug trafficking. As reported before, India has been aggressive in dealing with drug trafficking and police corruption. This time, the Thane Crime Branch’s Unit-5 raided and walked away with a drugs, cash, and three suspected traffickers.
Police In India Arrest Three Nigerian Men Suspected of Trafficking Cocaine and Mephedrone
Senior Inspector Vikas Ghodke said that 70 grams of Mephedrone, 60 grams of cocaine, mobile phones, IDs, and Rs2,700,000–or less than $33,000. He would identify the suspects as Sunday Obasi, Prosper Okoro-Wachuku, and Mago Eugene Stanley.
Ghodke said that three had plans to sell the cocaine and the Mephedrone but were cut off by officers. They have since been charged in connection with drug trafficking.
Depending on where the amounts fall on India’s definitions of “small” and “commercial quantity,” prison time can be anywhere between six months to 10 years with a fine that increases with the trafficked or possession weight.
Senior Inspector Ghodke touched on the importance of Unit-5’s work against drugs during the holidays:
“During the Christmas and New Year, the demands for the drugs rise and the reason the lawbreakers sell those drugs for the parties. We are investigating.”
