It’s hard to deny that Will Ospreay has been one of the best wrestlers in the world in 2022. His exploits in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Revolution Pro Wrestling have led to a staggering amount of five star matches, while he also has been able to improve his promo abilities at the same time. He will start 2023 in a big way as well, as Ospreay is set to defend his IWGP United States Championship against Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Will Ospreay Calls Kenny Omega An Egomaniac
While speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp – Will Ospreay would talk about his upcoming opponent at Wrestle Kingdom 17. Ospreay had the following to say about Kenny Omega.
“Kenny is an egomaniac. He’s a knobhead and thinks he knows everything. Sometimes he’s got to be punched in the mouth and reminded that he’s not above anybody, he is who he is. He’s some bloke that was really good at wrestling. I’m not going to deny his ability or talent, but be all and end all, you’re a knobhead that can be beat.”
Only One Prior Singles Meeting When They Were Different Wrestlers
Ospreay & Omega have only met in one singles match, coming at PWG All-Star Weekend in 2015, when both men were still Junior Heavyweights. They met in a trios match in 2022 for All Elite Wrestling, which saw Omega & The Young Bucks defeat Ospreay & Aussie Open in the semi-finals of the AEW World Trios Championship tournament.
Their match at Wrestle Kingdom 17 is set to be the semi-main event, and marks the return of Omega to a NJPW ring for the first time in exactly 3 years. The last time Omega wrestled for NJPW, he lost the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi, before leaving to form AEW. Ospreay & current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White would fill the void left by Omega, being the top two non-Japanese talent in the company.
