The California Highway Patrol arrested a doctor after finding that he drove his Tesla off a cliff in an attempt to kill his wife and kids. Dharmesh Patel (41) remains in the hospital but will be charged with child abuse and attempted murder once cleared.
Authorities Arrest California Doctor for Driving Tesla Off Cliff to Try and Kill Wife and Kids
On January 2, 2023, authorities responded to a car driving off Devil’s Slide, a dangerous part of the Pacific Coast Highway, and crashing 250 feet below. The Tesla tumbled a couple of times before it finally settled on its tires in awful shape.
Inside were Patel, his wife Naha, their 7-year-old daughter, and their 5-year-old son. Amazingly, they all survived the plunge. While investigating the crash, CHP found that there was “probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act.” What brought them to this conclusion wasn’t shared in the statement.
An interesting thing that is being looked at but doesn’t have the most weight is whether the Tesla was in autopilot mode or whether Dharmesh Patel was driving. Patel was employed as a radiologist at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center located in Los Angeles.
Providence Holy Cross released a brief statement about Patel to KABC:
“Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is deeply saddened to learn of a traffic incident involving one of our physicians and his family. We are extremely grateful there were no serious injuries.”
After that, the medical center said that it wouldn’t discuss the situation further because of the ongoing investigation.
