When Jon Moxley & Hangman Page finally met in a singles match, fans were excited. Here were two of the biggest names in AEW meeting for the very first time, a match that could well decide who the ace of the company was. However, it would end prematurely – with Moxley knocking Page out with a massive lariat.
Page was put out of action for two months, and was hit so hard he wasn’t able to remember his own son’s name. When he returned to confront Moxley and was met with jokes, Page would be sent to a new level of aggression immediately. Finally cleared to return to the ring, Page intends to make the most of this chance – and promises to be wiping the blood of Moxley from his boots by the end of the night.
Hangman Page Shows No Sign Of A Glass Jaw Tonight
Page would waste no time getting to the ring, marching straight into the ring and getting into a brawl with Moxley. Moxley would land three heavy forearm smashes before a lariat in the corner, but as he ran across the ring to gain speed for a second, Page caught him with a boot to the face. Page would duck an early attempt at the King Kong Lariat, before alternating between chops and elbow smashes to the chest of Moxley.
Moxley would whip Page into the mat head first, before choking him in the corner with his boot. A superplex would be set up, with Page holding his ground before having his back raked and bitten, before being suplexed from the top rope. Page was able to kick out at two, with Moxley going right into a cross armbreaker immediately.
Moxley was unable to maintain the hold, but was able to catch Page with back to back German Suplexes. The third suplex would be blocked, as would a lariat attempt – with Page hitting an Exploder Suplex. Going to the apron for a Buckshot Lariat, Page would be met with an elbow to the face, landing right on the barricade. Moxley would look to brawl on the floor but took a massive lariat.
Page would roll Moxley into the ring, where Moxley was able to find his footing and hit the King Kong Lariat for a two count. Some mounted punches would follow, before Moxley looked to simply stomp the head of Page in before some PK’s would land. Despite the damage, Page would continue looking to get up.
Jon Moxley Uses Some Shield Tactics
Page would find his feet for some quick punches, before taking a Diamond Cutter. Moxley would look for the STF with Page doing his best to avoid the hold. Page would force Moxley to shift into the Rear Naked Choke, which he was able to shift into a Backdrop Driver. Moxley would roll to his feet, only for Page to land his own version of the King Kong Lariat.
Page & Moxley would trade blows in the middle of the ring, with Page asking Moxley to bring the fight – suckering him into a Fallaway Slam. Moxley would look for a German Suplex, but Page landed on his feet and hit a Brodie Lee style Discus Lariat. Page would send Moxley to the floor, and kept the pressure on with a moonsault off the top rope.
Back in the ring, the Buckshot Lariat would be countered into the Death Rider – but proving his toughness, Page would kick out. Hammer & Anvil Elbows would follow, before Moxley would move into the Bulldog Choke. Moxley would look for the stoppage, but Page refused to give up – fighting back to his feet.
Giving up the choke, Moxley would spike Page on his head with a piledriver, who would proceed to kick out at one. Deadeye would land, with Moxley somehow getting back to his feet and hitting a Curb Stomp before collapsing. Both men would rise to their feet, with Moxley hitting some headbutts to cause damage.
Page would respond with a headbutt of his own and some open palm strikes as the crowd went crazy. Moxley would be laid out with a lariat, and The Buckshot Lariat would seal the deal. After the match, Moxley would be checked out by the ringside doctor – being helped to the back and attended too, which could be a poetic injury.
