In Leesburg, Florida, a man attacked an ATM with a hammer after it wouldn’t return his card. Del Michael Scotti (56) dropped by a Bank of America at 9 AM on January 14, 2023 and used his card at an ATM. However, the machine didn’t spit the card back out—and Scotti wasn’t having it.

Employees at the bank reported hearing someone yelling outside and investigated the scene. They found Scotti rocking the ATM and yelling at it as if it was a snack stuck in a vending machine.
When the card didn’t come out, Scotti went to his truck for a hammer and began pounding on the machine. Defeated, the 56-year-old hopped into his truck and left.
Leesburg police checked the scene and estimated the damages to be roughly $3,000. His license plate and truck were captured on surveillance video and officers arrived at his home sometime later.
When Scotti answered the door, he reported greeted them with “You must be here because of the ATM.” He would admit to beating on the ATM because his card wasn’t returned.
Del Michael Scotti was charged with criminal mischief over $1,000. He was able to leave the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond. The Leesburg PD explained why the ATM didn’t work as it was supposed to:
“The housing for the card insert was pushed inside the ATM, and the plastic surrounding the housing was broken into several pieces on the ground in front of the machine.”
