Will Smith and Martin Lawrence recently shared that there will be a fourth Bad Boys film. Not only that but the film is already in pre-production at Sony Pictures. As with Bad Boys for Life—which probably should’ve been the title for the fourth film—directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will be on board for the next entry in the franchise.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence Announce Fourth Bad Boys Film Is in Pre-Production
The series debuted in 1995, a year before Smith would head up Independence Day and following roughly a decade of success in TV and music for the 54-year-old. His co-star was still in the middle of his popular FOX sitcom, Martin at the time and had success in standup comedy before landing his own show.
The first movie had star power going into it with Michael Bay making his film directing debut. Landing over $140 million from a $19 million budget, Sony had a potential golden goose on its hands and proved as much with Bad Boys II despite reviews.
So, with the box office success of the 2020 sequel, a fourth film was a guarantee. The film was in production in 2022 but the project was halted that March because of the Will Smith-Chris Rock slap at the Academy Awards. The months following the incident made the box office powerhouse something of a forbidden talent.
Smith returned to film in 2022’s Emancipation.
