A 60-year-old Vermont man died following a fight at a middle school basketball game on January 31, 2023. The big fight occurred at the Alburgh Community Education Center but the cause of the brawl is unknown at the moment.
60-Year-Old Man Dies Following Middle School Basketball Rumble in Vermont
WCAX3 obtained footage that showed adults hitting the court and exchanging blows. The Alburgh and St. Albans boys teams—who were supposed to be the focus of the game—watched the chaos from the side. The Vermont State Police showed up to the education center shortly before 7 PM and noted that the fight had finished.
On top of that, some of the people involved in the fracas left the scene. One of those who couldn’t leave on their own was 60-year-old Russell Giroux. He was injured in the brawl and rushed to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Giroux would succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The manner of Russell Giroux’s death should be announced following an autopsy. Currently, the Vermont State Police are investigating both the victim’s death and the fight at the basketball game. Statements expressing condolences to Giroux’s family were released by both the Alburgh and St. Albans schools.
