NXT is currently going through a strange transition phase. They are stocking up on talent and finally getting around to developing and showcasing talent that has been down there for an extended period of times. Here are the top babyfaces in NXT.
Wes Lee
I think that the NXT fanbase is closer to the AEW or an indy fanbase than the WWE fanbase. In NXT, the fans are more likely to like what the company don’t want you to like or cheer the person that they actually want to cheer more consistently.
This is not to say that NXT don’t want you to cheer for Wes Lee, because they do. This is to say that they want you to cheer for the person that they picked to be the top champion, which is Bron Breakker, more.
With people growing tired of Bron being champion, I think that more and more people cheer for Lee because we have seen the ups and downs of his career. We have also seen him come up from barely being on television to losing a lot, to becoming the North American Champion.
While Wes is still growing on me, you cannot deny the reaction that he get from the fans. I think that he is the one of the top babyfaces over Bron because his reign is just starting and fans are still into him a lot.
Roxanne Perez
Before I get into Roxanne, I want to give an honorable shout out to Gigi Dolin. This week on NXT television, Jacy Jane turned on Gigi and I think that if this article was written even two weeks later, Gigi would be in this spot instead of Roxanne.
With that being said, Roxanne is someone that the fans just love. She is someone who has come up and proved that she is not just a young, pretty woman wrestler.
I think that fans were behind her before she won the NXT Women’s title, but now, with the women’s division rebuilding, she will be looked at to be the stabilizing force for the division until the rest of the women can catch up.
While she still have some improvement to do in the ring, I think that she has a natural sincereness to her that serves her well as the top babyface in the division.
I think that she still need a few more feuds under her belt before I can full buy into her being a top draw for the brand, I think that she will more than live up to the challenge.
Andre Chase
For something that to me, started out as a joke, Andre Chase and Chase U as a whole has become a big fan favorite. I think that it is great that Chase is getting this spotlight because I don’t think that Chase U has ever been about him for real.
He is a guy with a lot of charisma that has somehow made the fans love him with a goofy gimmick. Sounds familiar?
This happens often in wrestling where there is someone that you know for a fact, the company had no plans to push or dedicate any resources to, get over despite that.
Look at people like Zack Ryder, Rusev, and the Fashion Police. Earlier, I said that the fans in NXT are closer to indy fans and this is part of that proof. I think that Chase will have to change this gimmick if he hopes to make it on the main roster, but it is great for NXT.
