A Las Vegas judge made a decision on the bail amount for Nathan Chasing Horse, charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse and trafficking of Native American women and girls. His bail will be $300,000 but he must pay at least $45,000 before he is released.
Nathan Chasing Horse Has His Bail Set at $300K While the Prosecution Requested $2.2M and His Defense Requested $50K
The amount is a compromise of sorts but falls closer to what the defense requested. Chasing Horse’s lawyers asked there the bail be set at $50,000—which just wasn’t going to happen with his criminal history, what was found, and the charges against him. Meanwhile, the prosecution wanted $2.2 million.
Judge Craig Newman acknowledged that Nathan Chasing Horse was a threat to the community before awarding him bail. Reports state that there were many supporters of Chasing Horse outside with signs who cheered the decision.
The bail is set so low in part because the prosecution only presented Clark County Chief Deputy DA William Rowles. Normally, the prosecution presents evidence to get the bail they want in court. The expectation was that there would be quite a bit of evidence as there is a history of Chasing Horse.
So, while the judge seemed to agree that the former actor is dangerous, it seems as though there wasn’t enough presented to warrant setting the $2.2 million bail. Chasing Horse’s public defender, Kristy Holston was also pleased with bail amount.
