Ron Jeremy will be avoiding a trial against him on multiple rape and sexual misconduct allegations because of his mental decline at the hands of dementia. A judge made the decision after tests showed that he just wasn’t there mentally to handle his own defense.
While the trial hasn’t been tossed out entirely, it’s on a hiatus or a break until a better picture of the retired porn actor’s mental condition can be developed.
Ron Jeremy Avoids Sexual Assault Trial and Will Be Admitted to a Mental Hospital Because of Diminished Mental Ability
The 69-year-old was hit with multiple charges of sexual conduct in 2020 dating back to 2000. When 2021 came to a close, he had been hit with 30 charges involving 21 women. In the short time, he was in custody, his mental health took a sharp decline and concerns about his ability to handle his defense mentally were brought up by his legal team.
The state of California put a good amount of time and resources into investigating decades of allegations before charging Ron. Testing allowed for the defense to prove that their client was in no shape to stand trial while also giving the judge overseeing the legal proceedings a better idea of Ron Jeremy’s mental condition.
The judge found that he was unfit to stand trial and the decision was made to hold Ron Jeremy in a state mental hospital. His condition will be checked again in a May hearing to see if there’s any improvement before moving forward with the trial.
Since it could take some time before he improves or further declines, Ron will be observed for up to two years.
