Since being let go from WWE, Keith Lee has been on a course to become one of the biggest names in professional wrestling by signing on with All Elite Wrestling. Instantly treated as a big deal, Lee would quickly win his first championship as part of Swerve In Our Glory alongside Swerve Strickland. They were able to prove that two major singles stars can make a great tag team, but their egos didn’t co-exist for long. This works to Lee’s favour, as tag team gold was never his main plan in AEW.
Keith Lee Is Really Good At Making History
While appearing on The Masked Man show, former AEW World Tag Team Champion Keith Lee would be asked about his goals and ambitions now that he’s flying solo. Lee would respond saying he intends to be AEW’s first black World Heavyweight Champion.
“Oh, I mean, let’s be honest here. Any place or any time that an individual goes to a company, it doesn’t have to be sports related or physical, When you go somewhere, most people have goals or ambitions of being that number one talent, that number one person, that number one mine, whatever it may be. The end goal is obviously to become AEW World Heavyweight Champion, and let’s be honest, I’m really good at making history. I would be AEW’s first black World Heavyweight Champion. I’m more than capable of doing that, I’m more than capable of carrying myself in a way that would be fitting and beneficial to a company.”
In WWE, Keith Lee was the first and to date only man to hold both the NXT & NXT North American Championships simultaneously.
A Race With Swerve Strickland To The Top Of AEW
Right now, Lee is currently aligned with the legendary Dustin Rhodes – and set to take on his former tag team partner Swerve Strickland & Parker Boudreaux on the next episode of AEW Rampage. This is unlikely to be the final stage in the feud between Lee & Swerve, but rather just the first step in a longer feud.
When it comes to naming the first ever black World Heavyweight Champion in AEW – both Lee & Swerve are perfect choices to make that history. Both are wildly popular, fantastic in all aspects of professional wrestling, and are former champions in AEW. Lee brings more size and physical charisma, while Swerve is one of the best wrestlers and promos in the company.
