The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are facing accusations of exploiting the Royal Family after officially naming their children as Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
Harry And Meghan Are ‘Prostituting Their Titles,’ Says Esther Krakue
It was recently confirmed that the children of the Sussexes, Archie and Lilibet, have been granted official titles as Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
According to royal convention, when it comes to titles, the grandchildren of a monarch are entitled to them, but it’s up to them or their parents (if they are under 18) to decide whether or not to use them.
The question of whether Harry and Meghan would decide to christen their children after their criticism of the Royal Family caused disagreement.
However, a spokesperson confirmed that Archie and Lilibet were indeed christened in a private ceremony in California, and it was emphasized that it was their right to do so.
Esther Krakue, who happens to be a reporter, made it clear that the couple were exploiting the situation for financial gain.
In her comments, she said: “They are very aware that this wouldn’t happen if they weren’t members of the Royal Family and didn’t have these titles.
“It’s also quite disparaging and insulting because they’re effectively prostituting their titles and the Royal Family to make more money.” Those comments do hold some weight for the following reasons.
First of all, it is important to bear in mind that Harry had made it clear that giving up his titles would not make a difference. And yet, his lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix would suggest otherwise.
Secondly, it may give the couple an opportunity to commercialize their childrens’ titles. After all, Archie and Lilibet have been kept away from the limelight which suggests there is an element of mystery surrounding them.
As a result, the social media response towards the couple was very clear. A certain subset of people agreed that the couple would continue to monetize any connection they had with the firm since they had shown they were not capable of creating their own credible brand moving forward.
One person wrote: “They know they are nothing without their titles. PinocchioMegain couldn’t even read a children’s book without mentioning her title.”
While another person stated: “By giving their children the titles “they never wanted”, they solidified their financial future. They are using their children like a couple of commodities.”
