The upcoming coronation of King Charles III is almost here, but the exact details regarding the grandeur of the ceremony and its expenses are still unclear.
King Charles III’s Coronation Expense Revealed-‘Around £100 million’
According to an article in the Sun that cited an unnamed “source,” the estimated cost of the May 6th event was projected to be around £100 million.
However, it was also reported that the revenue generated from the global broadcast rights would be enough to cover the expenses.
Despite the ongoing issue of high cost of living, hosting an extravagant and elaborate ceremony may seem inappropriate as it does not align with the struggles experienced by numerous households.
According to Norman Baker, a former member of parliament and writer the financial aspect is the most vulnerable area for the Royal Family. He said: “If someone has to pay for something they’ll get someone else to pay.
“Charles is of that mind too, which is why he gets all these freebies from people. It’s a very self-serving route – it’s also a dangerous route for them.”
Charles’ reign has encountered difficulties at the beginning, such as the ongoing repercussions of Prince Andrew’s downfall and accusations of inner turmoil within the royal family from Harry and Meghan.
The popularity of the royals has been affected and this is evident from a YouGov survey conducted after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
While 84% of the people believed that she did a commendable job, the feedback in other areas was not very favorable. According to a survey that included questions about the monarchy, only 39% of the respondents believe that there will be a monarchy in the next 100 years.
Additionally, the survey revealed that only 57% of the participants think that Charles will perform his duties well, which is significantly lower than his mother’s approval ratings.
With that being said, Barker said: “Charles would be very, very wise to have a very scaled down coronation.
“He needs to understand that there are serious issues to be answered about the way that the Royal Family accumulates and uses public money and he hasn’t come anywhere near to answering those yet.”
It is fair to say that the firm has a lot of challenges to address, which will be crucial for its future going forward. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
