In All Elite Wrestling, they have an issue that is foreign to WWE fans. While WWE has far too many championships, AEW only has the essentials. Until now, they have had their Heavyweight Championship, Tag Team Championship, and Women’s Championship. That has now changed as they have announced the TNT Championship in a new press release.
AEW Announces TNT Championship
During the weekly Road To episode that co-insides with the upcoming episode of Dynamite, a have announcement was promised to fans. This was a new title for AEW talent to fend for. The following information came in a press release. “Today, AEW announced its first-ever “TNT CHAMPIONSHIP,” a high-stakes, eight-man tournament which kicks off on Wednesday, April 8, on the weekly AEW: DYNAMITE show on TNT. The single-elimination tournament will feature the biggest names in AEW all vying for the inaugural TNT CHAMPIONSHIP belt.”
Wrestling fans love tournaments, and this is the perfect way to keep viewers hooked to AEW in the coming weeks, giving a much needed distraction from the state of the world. This will likely act as their version of the Intercontential Championship in WWE, a secondary title for those not ready for the world title, or unable to challenge for it.
Is This Where We Will See Cody Rhodes vs. Lance Archer?
Since the Murderhawk Monster has arrived in All Elite Wrestling, Cody Rhodes has been avoiding him. With both men likely to be a lock for this tournament, we could very well see them clash in the finals, giving Cody nowhere to run. This is a championship for Cody to win, as he is unable to go for the AEW Championship following his loss to Chris Jericho at Full Gear. That makes him a strong contender, but having Archer win this title and remain undefeated could be another great way to establish this new championship quickly as a top prize. While the field is unclear, we will likely have more information come Wednesday with AEW, as competitors will be announced. Who do you want to see fend for the TNT Championship?
