After wrecking havoc in NJPW in his biggest singles run yet, Lance Archer has signed with AEW. He aligned himself with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, and is set to destroy all of AEW. There is one man in particular he wants a piece of, that being Cody Rhodes. Ever since Jake Roberts warned Cody there was someone coming for this place, you seem the sweat forming. With Archer set to debut next week, how long will Cody be able to avoid this latest threat?
Lance Archer Calls Out Cody On Twitter
The official AEW Twitter page shared the message of “Cody Rhodes is absolutely NOT ready for what’s coming!” along with a picture of Archer, which would be boosted by Archer who doubled down stating that “No one in AEW is ready. Especially Cody Rhodes”
Cody wants nothing to do with Archer yet however, stating the following on Twitter. “I appreciate Lance & his skillset. AEW is glad to have him. I’m not interested in social media angles though. He will debut this week, but not against me. He has zero record with AEW, me wrestling him does a disservice to others climbing into the Top-5. Maybe down the road.”
This simply shows that Cody is trying to delay the inevitable, and avoid what could be his biggest challenge yet. He has no issue facing someone like Jimmy Havoc, who is far from the Top 5, yet now is using his #3 position to hide from Archer.
Why Start With Cody Rhodes?
It’s clear that Cody is viewed as a stepping stone for people wanting a quick rise in AEW. Should Lance Archer get his hands on Cody and defeat him, that will boost him quickly.
While Cody is unable to become AEW Champion, he remains a top ranked singles competitor with a great record backing him up. This makes him a major target for anyone. With just his singles win at Revolution over Cody, MJF is already the #2 ranked man in AEW. Beating Cody works, it just isn’t easy to do. We will see Archer make his debut next week, likely against a Brandon Culter or QT Marshall, someone who won’t get him much traction on the rankings.
