There are times in professional wrestling where someone is in the right place, but the wrong time. This was never more clear than Sarray in WWE NXT. Formerly known as Sareee in Japan, Sarray was set to be the latest female wrestler from Japan to take the company by storm – following in the footsteps of Asuka, Iyo Sky & Kairi Sane.
However, she arrived in NXT just before the change to NXT 2.0 – and was lost in the shuffle. She has since left the company, but was offered another deal before her exit.
Sarray Was Offered New WWE Contract Before Choosing To Leave The Company
While speaking with Web Sportiva, Sarray would reveal that WWE had offered a new contract before she would decide to leave the company and return to Japan. Sarray had the following to say about her WWE exit.
“I didn’t fight on the main roster, but I felt that I had learned enough in WWE. I was able to absorb the spirit of entertainment that I had been missing. There was talk of renewing the contract, but I wanted to do wrestling that I believed in, and at 27 years old, I was at my most physically active, so I thought, I will regret it if I don’t do the wrestling I have wanted to do for a long time now.”
Just 23 Matches Under The WWE Banner
In the end, Sarray only wrestled 23 matches for WWE – never really getting to show her full potential during her run. There was a chance this would have changed with the new contract, but few could blame Sarray for choosing to instead return to Japan as a free agent. She will return to the ring facing Chihiro Hashimoto on May 16th – her first recorded match since August 2022.
Right now is a fantastic time to be involved with Japanese wrestling for Sarray. Stardom recently ran their biggest show to date – with All Star Grand Queendom packing fans into Yokohama Arena. Sarray is not currently involved with Stardom, but would be a natural fit in their roster going forward.
