During the 2023 WWE Draft, we would see the return of AJ Styles. Having suffered an ankle injury in late 2022, Styles missed the entire road to WrestleMania, and missed his first WrestleMania since making his WWE debut in 2016.
However, he didn’t miss a beat – and on his first night back in the ring was able to win a Triple Threat match against Rey Mysterio & Edge and a singles match against Bobby Lashley to make the main event of Night of Champions. There he will battle Seth Rollins for the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
AJ Styles Is Glad To Be Back In The Main Event
During an interview with Inside The Ropes, AJ Styles stated that he’s glad to be back in the heavyweight title picture in WWE once again. Styles had the following to say about his upcoming match with Rollins.
“I feel the same as you. It’s about time I’m back in the heavyweight title picture. Unfortunately, I’m up against Seth Rollins, who’s probably one of the best. I said it a long ago that he’s gonna be great, and nothing has changed. He’s still one of the best, no doubt about it, so we’ll see what happens.”
Styles would also be asked about working two matches on his first night back in the ring – stating that is exactly where he wants to be right now.
“Oh, you’re gonna be in two matches your first time back in the ring with WWE. Oh, that’s great, because that’s where I wanted to be. Who knows where my cardio is at this point? It’s a bit worrisome, but I made it through, and now for my first biggest match in the WWE since I returned, it’s gonna be against Seth Rollins in Jeddah. So yeah, no pressure.”
Styles last chance to win a World Championship in WWE came in 2022 as part of an Elimination Chamber match. His last one on one title match was in 2019, where he lost to Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank.
