Chris Jericho had publicly stated that he had no interest in facing ‘The Icon’ Sting. However, when Sting would stick his nose into the business of Jericho – a clash was all but inevitable.
With Sammy Guevara and Minoru Suzuki to back him up, Jericho challenged Sting & Darby Allin to find a third man who would be willing to team with them. They instantly had a man in mind, with an enemy from the past of Jericho – that being NJPW’s Tetsuya Naito.
Naito was the one to end the IWGP Intercontinental Championship reign of Jericho in the Tokyo Dome – and a man who has no fear when it comes to Suzuki either.
He was left off Forbidden Door in 2022, which puts a chip on his shoulder – as he looks to ensure that he’s never overlooked for a massive crossover show again.
Los Stingobernables Face Down Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara & Minoru Suzuki
Sting would come out wearing the Joker face paint from his Impact Wrestling days, showing a different side of his personality for this dream match. Across their careers, Jericho & Sting have never shared a ring before now – truly a history making moment. Naito would take his time disrobing, starting off with Guevara… and continuing to stall as Guevara tried to lock up.
Naito was sent off the ropes but stopped, and led Guevara into a boot to the face. Guevara would respond with the corkscrew dropkick before posing in the middle of the ring.
Naito would send Guevara from the ring, before teasing a dive but hitting the Tranquilo Pose instead. Guevara would springboard back into the ring but missed Naito, and took a snap armdrag before a dropkick to the neck.
Suzuki & Allin would get tags, putting a sadistic man against a masochistic one. Allin would march up to Suzuki and nail a forearm smash, only for Suzuki to fire back twice as hard. Suzuki would wind up and floor Allin with his calcified forearm, and Allin would rise up and fire off an open hand chop.
Suzuki teased a punch but hit the palm strike instead before trying for the choke. Allin used the ropes to counter into a pinfall, before Sting tagged in. After a brief standoff between Sting & Suzuki, Jericho would ask for the tag – and the dream match was ready to go.
Chris Jericho & Sting Lock Up For The First Time Ever
After circling the ring, Sting would put his back to Suzuki… and the plan was struck. Sting would be jumped from behind, with Naito & Allin quick to back him up.
Jericho & Sting would start a hockey fight at center ice, before Jericho tried to set up a Stinger Splash. Sting was able to avoid this and set up the Scorpion Deathlock, with Guevara breaking the submission up with a springboard cutter.
Jericho, Guevara & Suzuki would pose in the ring for those with flash photography, before Guevara would corner Sting before punching down on The Icon.
Sting would catch Guevara taunting, and dropped him face first onto the corner. Allin would get the tag and hit the Code Red, getting the near fall. He went up top, but was caught with a Spanish Fly from Guevara.
Jericho & Naito would meet in the ring, with Jericho running into a neckbreaker. Naito would be taken into a choke, with Guevara & Suzuki preventing a save.
Allin would break free of Guevara before hitting a cannonball senton onto Suzuki. A dive onto Jericho was stopped with the Judas Effect – an effective anti-air move.
Jericho would set up a table at ringside, and Sting was set up on it. Guevara was demanded to use the 630 Senton, and after an argument – Sting was crushed. Back in the ring, Naito would brawl with Jericho, and would block a Lionsault. Destino would be countered, with Jericho trying for the Walls Of Jericho.
Chris Jericho Is A Sore Loser
Somehow, Sting was back up to save Naito – and Suzuki would stop him and tried for the Gotch Style Piledriver but was unsuccessful. Naito took a Codebreaker, before Suzuki hit the ring. It would be a familiar scene as he matched up with Naito, some heavy forearm smashes from both men.
Sting would assist in cutting Suzuki down, allowing Naito to slip into a roll up for the victory. After the bell, Jericho would use the bat on the back of Naito – proving he’s a sore loser. Sting would lay down the law, and sent Jericho running. They’d lock eyes as Jericho headed up the ramp, and this issue is far from over.
