After two weeks of AEW Collision, fans have a very good idea of what to expect from the newest show in the AEW TV family. Both episodes have been on par with Dynamite in terms of quality, and featured the likes of CM Punk, Miro & Andrade El Idolo in key roles.
Add in an excellent theme song, as each episode starts with Elton John. Tony Khan knew this was the song he wanted – and made sure it happened.
Tony Khan Felt Elton John Was The Perfect Pick For Collision
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Khan would talk using Saturday Nights Alright by Elton John as the theme song for AEW’s Saturday Night show.
“I’m not going to claim it was, but I will say it was the perfect fit for the show. I really wanted to get it. I love working with pro wrestling music rights. One thing we’ve done in AEW is bring a lot of awesome music into the world of pro wrestling on a weekly basis. You hear some legendary bands and songs every week on Dynamite, and now on AEW Collision, very fitting to have this amazing anthem, Elton John’s ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting’ as the official theme song of Collision. It’s a really big deal and I’m very excited about this great opening theme we were able to get and people seem to love the show open. It felt to me it would be the perfect song and I really enjoy working on those kinds of things.”
Not The Only Classic Rock Song Khan Recently Got For AEW
Khan would also open his wallet for a special entrance at Forbidden Door – as Bryan Danielson would hit the ring for the main event to ‘The Final Countdown’ by Europe.
This song is notoriously expensive to get, with Khan stating it was like paying an entire wrestlers contract. The moment was worth it, but fans shouldn’t expect The Final Countdown to be the default entrance track of Danielson moving forward.
When asked about using the song – Khan had the following to say.
“It’s a very expensive song, Final Countdown. I had been working on it for awhile, leading into the pay-per-view, because I believed it would be a great moment and would give the match something special. Final Countdown has always been associated with Bryan, and I thought it was a cherry on top of this cake that everybody has been wanting a piece of that everybody has been wanting with Okada vs. Danielson.
