Right now in WWE, creativity is their strongest tool. This was proven in the Boneyard & Firefly Funhouse matches, which took a very cinematic approach, reminiscent of Broken Matt Hardy specials like The Ultimate Deletion. WWE has another ace up their sleeve to follow those events up with, and one that could fill a whole PPV if needed. This comes in their smash hit comedy series, Southpaw Regional Wrestling.
WWE Did It As An Ode To The Regional Territory Days
Back before Vince McMahon played Monopoly with the territory system, there was numerous small promotions doing their best to entertain fans with amazing matches and larger than life characters. WWE paid tribute to this with two seasons of Southpaw Regional Wrestling, which while they had zero wrestling, they provided the characters and laughs as they built to shows. This means the next logical conclusion is to have WWE gather a small cast of characters, and put on a full Southpaw Regional Wrestling show for their fans, something in the style of the Firefly Funhouse match. They have an entire warehouse full of props, meaning the possibilities could be endless for this type of special.
A Southpaw Regional Wrestling PPV Would Be The Peak Of Sports Entertainment
With the current goal of professional wrestling being to entertain fans from all around the world, a light hearted wrestling special like this would be the perfect way to ensure that happens once again. Even just something put together for the WWE Network would be amazing. They already have footage for promos and backstory, making it easy to craft something. Quarantine Quarrel would be a potential name for an event like this.
If they were able gather some of the best entertainers they have and let them go crazy with the idea, and deliver a true pre-taped classic for the ages. WWE could even reveal it as a long last tape of the first empty arena PPV of all time, or something else fitting to the lore of Southpaw Regional Wrestling.
Is this something you would want to watch? Or should Southpaw Regional Wrestling stay what it is, and not bleed into WWE like it did one past Halloween episode? Let us know what you think of their product in the comment section down below.
