Earlier today, Tony Khan was forced to make a choice. He would release two time AEW World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk from his contract with the company.
Having to let go if one of the biggest value names in the company was not a choice to be made lightly, and to ensure everyone is up to speed – Khan made a rare TV appearance to address this situation.
Tony Khan Terminates Contract Of CM Punk Due To Backstage Fight At All In
Khan would state this was one of the hardest professional choices he ever had to make. He terminated Phil Brooks – the real name of CM Punk, with cause. This is from an incident backstage at AEW All In – which endangered people unrelated to it.
He’s been visiting wrestling shows for close to 30 years, and running them for 4 years. This incident was the first time he felt in danger at a wrestling show.
No one should feel that way, and the choice came hard. Khan apologises to any fans let down by this news, but the roster of AEW will be more united – and continue to deliver the highest quality shows possible.
Ricky Starks Isn’t Missing Another Moment Of PPV Time
Tony Schiavone would be in the ring promoting All Out – and Ricky Starks made a challenge. He has a bone to pick with a legend of professional wrestling – after 70 year old Ricky Steamboat was the one to count the pinfall in his match against now a former AEW star.
Steamboat would be beaten with a belt – and tonight, Starks intends to go further. He wants to call the legend out for a strap match tomorrow at All Out. Steamboat returned to the ring for a trios match last year, but his last singles match was in 2009.
Schiavone would ask if Starks is out of his damn mind, challenging a 70 year old man to a strap match. Starks is back at square one, having climbed up the hill and got drug back down.
However – when this happen, he gets better. Starks is tired of starting over, but he does it every time because he shows up, does his job, and shines. You can’t put a lid on a boiling pot, because it will overflow.
Big Bill would get some praise, having done the same battles of starting over from nothing. Starks believes in Bill, and believes in himself. Starks sat on his living room couch to watch the biggest show in All Elite Wrestling history, all because of Steamboat.
He was the reason he was suspended, and Starks will do what he needs to do because he refuses to leave another moment behind – so he wants an answer from The Dragon right now.
The Dragon Signs The Contract
Steamboat marched to the ring, with a contract in hand. What happened between them four weeks ago, it was a cheap shot. He didn’t complain once for the cheap shots – yet Starks was kicking up a fuss on social media.
Starks can talk a great game, and perform in the ring. Steamboat got in touch with AEW legal, and did things old school.
The contract is drafted, so the pen can talk – not the mouth. An AEW sanctioned No DQ Strap match – and all Starks need to do is sign it. Let the mouth be the pen, and he gets a legend on PPV tomorrow night. It was signed by Starks, and another signature for a Dragon.
Wrestling fans know Ricky Steamboat as The Dragon, but they also know another Dragon. The music of Bryan Danielson would hit, and he’d come to the ring and sign the contract.
Sidelined with an arm injury, he also missed All In. Starks didn’t specify what Dragon he got to face. Tomorrow for All In – The Dragon vs. Ricky Starks.
If this is the bed Starks has to lay in – he’ll make sure he’s nice and comfortable. He got what he wanted, he got his strap match – and will learn to make more specific challenges in the future.
