Last night on AEW Collision, Bryan Danielson dropped a bombshell for fans. He would reveal that he made a promise to his daughter to stop a full time professional wrestling schedule once she turned 7 years old.

With his daughter currently being 6 years old, Danielson let fans know his time left in the ring is short – but he intends to make the most of it. But does this mean a complete retirement for The American Dragon?

Bryan Danielson Will Remain Close To AEW

When you’re looking at the career of Bryan Danielson, it’s important to remember that his current run was never supposed to happen for a normal individual.

He was forced into an early retirement due to a string of concussion related injuries, and when he made his return in 2018 – fans just accepted that we would get however many extra years of Danielson as he could find.

This run would see him main event WrestleMania, share the ring with Bray Wyatt again, and join AEW where he wrestled the likes of Kenny Omega & Kazuchika Okada in massive dream matches.

We got 7 extra years of Danielson as a full time wrestler, and one more to go – which is already seeing another dream match at AEW WrestleDream against Bryan Danielson, a match originally planned for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022.

Danielson is not going to be finished with AEW after the next year however, having become close with Tony Khan and being set up to help backstage into the future.

Danielson being closely involved with AEW will ensure that even after his final full time year in professional wrestling is up – he will be close to the industry he loved.

So long as Danielson is able to remain in ring shape, we can also expect to see him used as a special attraction type for AEW, someone to quickly stick in a big PPV match to put on a classic- like we saw with Ricky Starks at All Out.

Goals For His Final Full Time Year

Beyond his match with Zack Sabre Jr at WrestleDream, we can expect a lot more goals to be checked off Danielson’s list over the next year.

That match will determine who the greatest technical wrestler around today truly is. One major one is being involved with the NJPW G1 Climax tournament – which has had AEW names over the past few years with Jon Moxley, Lance Archer & Eddie Kingston.

Another unfinished story for Danielson comes with Kazuchika Okada – who he defeated at Forbidden Door 2023. That match was a clear start of a longer feud – possibly with the next stage set for the Tokyo Dome in January 2024, as Danielson makes his long awaited return to a NJPW ring.

Beyond those, Danielson will likely make the most of his time within AEW – and fans can expect him in big matches at every major show for AEW.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
