PWI released their regular top 500 Wrestlers in the World list and there were a couple of interesting things of note.
The biggest being that Seth Rollins was listed in the number one spot. This is well deserved as he’s taken over as the face of the WWE since winning the World Heavyweight Championship.
Seth Rollins Beat Out Roman Reigns for PWI’s Top Spot in Their 500 Wrestlers Ranking
He’s been everywhere as he’s been adamant that the title is regularly defended and it’s a great look for him and the company.
It’s given him a chance to really shine and he’s elevated the title from something that’s new and unproven to one with distinction.
We’ve had a lot of fun watching him and we’re glad he’s being noticed. Of course, to get the top spot he has to beat out Roman Reigns.
What’s really interesting about this isn’t that Rollins beat him, but that Reigns was considered. Many have speculated on whether Reigns wrestled the 20 matches PWI requires to be listed.
Making the cut
While it can be argued the PWI is slanted toward the WWE, whether due to the WWE’s dominance or visibility are two possible reasons, it would seem odd to leave Reigns off the list given how great the Bloodline storyline has been.
But due to his contract he doesn’t wrestle that often and since house shows and dark matches aren’t televised it’s hard for the casual fan to really keep track.
And now that the Bloodline storyline has geared down, he’s not reported to make any appearances for a while.
His schedule, while smart on his end to get his contract to be so light, has fans grumbling a little bit. It wasn’t too long ago that Brock Lesnar only wrestled a handful of matches a year as champion, so part time champions are one thing many fans don’t appreciate.
But Reigns work has been great character wise, so maybe he deserves a break?
One person that hasn’t given him a break is Rollins, and due to his efforts the World Heavyweight Championship has eclipsed the WWE Universal Championship for many.
For me, I didn’t even think of it until now. It’s a standard care of out of sight, out of mind while Rollins is always around showing off his title and taking challengers.
In the end, this all boils down to one thing that Rollins said in an interview a while back: “Three things are certain in life — death, taxes, and Seth Rollins beats Roman Reigns ALWAYS.”
It appears in this instance he was correct.
