On November 16, 2019, Pro Wrestling Revolution (PWR) held an event at John O’Connell High School in San Francisco, California that was headlined by the local Rudo (Heel) group La Migra (aka Border Patrol) of PWR Junior Heavyweight Champion Colt Stevens, JR Kratos, and referee Sparky Ballard coming to down to the ring.
As their name references, Border Patrol plays a culture conservative gimmick of individuals that call Hispanic members of the crowd ‘illegals’ and make consistent references to the ‘Catch & Release’ program previously heavily used at the United States border with Mexico.
In front of a Lucha Libre crowd, it helps them draw a lot of heat and is similar to the character RJ Brewer played in Lucha Libre USA around a decade ago. Colt Stevens did nearly all of the talking and referenced his title defense ladder match against Bestia 666 (son of Damian 666) later in the even — also, referencing JR Krato’s match against LA Park in the marquee match of the night.
The segment achieved its goal, and it’s clear the group isn’t afraid to draw genuine heat — something that is becoming rarer, especially in the United States. Kratos and Stevens are impressive, both have the potential to attract attention in professional wrestling after the COVID-19 pandemic.
