Out of everyone who was recently released from their WWE contracts, no one has more star potential in singles action than the man formerly known as Rusev. The three-time WWE United States Champion is set to make waves wherever he lands come the end of 90 days non-compete clause. He is surely getting offers from all major promotions, including the National Wrestling Alliance. Speaking with Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling, the reigning NWA Champion Nick Aldis would speak on the potential that Rusev has in NWA.
Even A Short Run Would Be Huge For NWA
While obviously it would be incredible for them to have him on a full time contract, he is more likely to be picked up by someone like All Elite Wrestling or Impact Wrestling. Even a short run with the NWA is all Aldis wants for Rusev.
“Sometimes the obvious thing is right in front of you. I felt like with Rusev it was there. Like okay, this guy, totally unique look, he’s a horse, unbelievable athlete, he can work, charisma, whole thing is ready to go. I dare say that he would be… if I were AEW and I had the resources to pay for it, I think he would probably be [at the] top of my list. I think he would probably end back up at WWE, but I’m not sure how confident I’ll be that he’ll be on the open market for very long, but hell yeah. If we could get him at the NWA, even for a short period run, it would be huge.”
Either running as a monster heel or a babyface like his most recent WWE run, a series of matches with Nick Aldis would be a treat for any fan of professional wrestling. They would be able to put on some throwback classics, matches truly fitting of the lineage of the National Wrestling Alliance.
Rusev Will Fit In Anywhere
We have now heard representatives from both NWA & AEW express interest in having Rusev on their roster. Fans want to see him go to Japan and dominate in tournaments like the G1 Climax or Champions Carnival, while also wanting him in AEW showing American fans he was held back in WWE.
