For fans of indie wrestling, there is one name that stands above all else. This is ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey, a Canadian Wrestler who has been kept away from major promotions for years now. Not for bad behavior, but rather due to work visa related issues. A 5 year ban from entering the United States would have put most careers on hold, but not Mike Bailey. He would double down on working indies all over the world, making a name for himself in Europe with companies like wXw & Japan with DDT. Bailey is a high flyer on the same level as men like Fenix, Ricochet & Will Ospreay, and fans will hopefully get to experience that in AEW before long.
Kenny Omega Wants A Rematch With Mike Bailey
During the days before Kenny Omega would become arguably the best wrestler in the world during his time with New Japan Pro Wrestling, he would meet Mike Bailey in a match for Pro Wrestling Guerilla. At PWG All Star Weekend 11 – Tag 1 in 2015, they would clash in a 20 minute classic. A fan recently posted a 13 second clip of this to Twitter, to which Omega replied “About time for a rematch”.
Speedball would perfectly fit the vibe of All Elite Wrestling, and outside of Kenny Omega, fans are now looking forward to seeing him lock up with names like Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy, Rey Fenix and more. He would fit in perfectly, and finally have the platform he deserves.
Why Was Bailey Banned From The United States?
In March of 2016, Mike Bailey would look to cross the border from Canada into the United States. This was to work a show for Evolve. Bailey was stopped by US border control who found that he had no work visa, and thus he was banned from entering the country for 5 years. He was in the process of getting a work visa from CZW at the time, but that process was not finalized which caused this whole mess.
His time is nearly through, with about 10 months left on this ban. He has stated that he does not intend to sign with a major company until 2022, which would still only put him at 31 years old. His entire career is ahead of him, and it could be Elite.
A few must-see matches of his on Youtube include the following. Mike Bailey vs. KUSHIDA, Mike Bailey vs. Will Ospreay and Mike Bailey vs. Matt Riddle.
