Last night at WWE Backlash, the main event was Edge vs. Randy Orton. The branding claimed it would be the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, and while that is up for debate, they did have a fantastic match. A slow burn into hitting finishers from past legends, ending with a flurry of RKO’s and Spears followed by Randy Ortons first punt in years. They went long, but they used their time amazingly. Some compared it to matches Kazuchika Okada vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi due to the pace and star power. However, not everyone got out fine, as Edge suffered an injury while this match was taped.
Edge Has A Torn Tricep
When most will read ‘Edge suffered an injury’ the next thought is likely ‘Please not this neck’, and thankfully this isn’t the case. Edge would reportedly tear a tricep. This is an injury that will put Edge out of action for 4-6 months, meaning we will see him back in time for Survivor Series at the soonest, or they might wait for another big Royal Rumble return.
The Storyline With Randy Orton Will Likely Continue
Helping to cover up this injury is that Edge lost the match via The Punt, a move which often puts people on the shelf for months at a time. The perfect mix of a great finisher and storyline tool, we should see Orton claim that he placed Edge into retirement again after he beat him in the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever. This will make the next surprise return of Edge that much sweeter, especially if it comes at the 2021 Royal Rumble, with Edge rushing in and eliminating Orton.
Which how sparsely the matches will happen, this feud could easily continue into Wrestlemania 37, with it finally getting the huge crowd they deserved for it. They might have piped in cheers and reactions for last nights match, but a proper crowd would have been sucked right into that match and likely reacting the same.
We here at The Overtimer wish Edge a speedy recovery, and hope to see him in the ring again very soon. What do you think he will be doing upon his return? Will Randy Orton chase the WWE Championship in the meantime? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
