It’s hard to imagine, but EVIL is now the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontential Champions. He would turn on Tetsuya Naito and Los Ingorables De Japon, join Bullet Club, and after winning the New Japan Cup would go all the way to defeat Naito. It was a messy loss, with Dick Togo making his surprise return to NJPW disguised as BUSHI to help him in victory, but a victory is a victory. He’d be questioned by the press after the event, but he’d keep his answers short.
EVIL Will Defend Against Hiromu Takahashi at Sengoku Lord
Before the press conference could begin, NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi had some things to say. First he thanked the fans who attended the Osaka Jo Hall events and followed the rules. He would then announce the new two shows, New Japan Road & Sengoku Lord, as well as their cards. On July 25th, EVIL will be defending his championships against the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi, who confronted EVIL after he beat down Naito. This is the first time in seven years that a Junior Heavyweight Champion challenged for the Heavyweight Championship.
Keeping His Answers Short And Sour
EVIL didn’t want to do this press conference, and thus kept things simple. When asked why he joined Bullet Club he said “BULLET CLUB are the best team there’s ever been.” His thoughts on his former partners in L.I.J? Rotten. Does he care about the NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championships he holds with BUSH & SANADA? “That belt? That piece of crap? I don’t need it.” What does he think about Naito? “Watch the match and you’ll see all there is to say. I saw right through everything he had to offer.” Finally he would be asked what he thought about his next challenger. “Hey Hiromu, you 100% yet? Can your neck survive my offence? Hmph.”
When asked how it felt to hold both the IWGP Intercontinental and Heavyweight Championships, he’d end the interview and said he wasn’t going to waste his time on such questions.
We certainly learned one thing in this press conference, he has planned on leaving L.I.J for some time, and this was a calculated choice. Until Jay White gets back in Japan, he’s the ace of Bullet Club, and it’s going to take a lot to take him down. Hiromu has a slim chance at best, but you know he’ll bring his all in revenge.
