AEW just gained another school to train their rookies at. After months of being rumored to have been coaching students from behind the scenes, Dustin Rhodes has announced his own wrestling school. It will be called Rhodes Academy. Here is what we know at this point.
Rhodes Academy Will Be Set Up In Texas
According to the Twitter page, @AcademyRhodes, the location is set to be somewhere in Texas, likely close to where Rhodes lives, which is in Austin. When asked if it will serve as developmental for AEW, the following was said.
“It is a developmental academy. Fresh, young, new prospects that have a dream of one day wrestling in front of thousands of people. This is completely my project, a project that I have dreamt about for a long time. Lots of knowledge in my years.”
Rhodes is one of the most tenured wrestlers around, and has experience in both expert ring and character work, making him one of the best to learn from. He’s taken people like Sonny Kiss & MJF under his wing within AEW, and now he’ll have a proper school to train the future of wrestling at.
This now makes two excellent schools in Texas, joining Booker T’s school. Given the past of Rhodes & Booker, we could see some of Rhodes students get chances in Reality Of Wrestlng, the promotion run by Booker T in the region.
Joining Flatback Wrestling & The Nightmare Factory
This will not be the only wrestling school AEW can send rookie talent too however. They also have Flatbacks Wrestling run by Shawn Spears, and the Nightmare Factory run by Cody Rhodes & QT Marshall. This is a great variety of talented trainers, and with Kris Statlander & MJF coming from Curt Hawkins school, you can almost include this as well.
Lucha Bros also train wrestlers down in Mexico, with Christi Jaynes being one of their students. It is more scattered than the WWE Performance Center, but that is a diverse and talented crew. You can learn every style across that crew, and come out of training ready to rule.
