While Cody Rhodes reign as TNT Champion has been a great one, and it’s been dominated by an open challenge, how open is it really? It’s brought men like WARHORSE, Eddie Kingston & Ricky Starks to AEW, and given others like Marq Quen & Sonny Kiss a chance to shine. However, he won’t be defending against women like the legendary LuFisto.
Intergender Wrestling Is A Touchy Subject And Cody Rhodes Isn’t A Fan
While AEW has dabbled with the Intergender Wrestling formula with a mixed tag match pitting Omega & Riho against Ford & Sabian, that’s likely all we will see with it in the company. Male on female violence is not a good look for another company looking to get into the mainstream, which keeps Lance Archer safe from Big Swole thankfully.
However, outside of AEW? It’s still a very active part of the industry, as women prove they’re every bit as tough as their male counterparts. One woman who’s prominent in that style is LuFisto, but Cody Rhodes won’t be giving her a shot.
Taking to Twitter after being asked and a match graphic being made, he’d say the following. “I’m not particularly a fan of intergender wrestling. That’s my personal opinion though, I respect that others do enjoy it. I’m a big fan of women’s wrestling and LuFisto though, she’s universally praised.”
LuFisto Has One Open Challenge She Can Answer
While Cody Rhodes clearly fears her, Hikaru Shida just opened up the floodgates in an open challenge for the AEW Women’s Championship. Thunder Rosa has expressed interest, and Diamante is getting a shot at the champion tomorrow on Dynamite.
Lufisto is an absolute legend of female independent wrestling, and if anyone deserves this spotlight? It’s her. She’d give Shida a hell of a fight, and could even walk away with an upset victory. This would be the same if she faced Cody, as she’s someone you can never count out.
She could also show up in the Deadly Draw tag team tournament, giving a veteran for someone like Anna Jay to work underneath the wing of. Would you want to see LuFisto in All Elite Wrestling?
