Wade Barrett Might Be Staying Around Full Time In WWE For Commentary

Wade Barrett Might Be Staying Around Full Time In WWE For Commentary

Last week on NXT, a familiar face lent his voice to the commentary team. This is Wade Barrett, who was making his first WWE appearance since he left in 2016 following the break down of The League Of Nations. He was perfect in the role, having previous experience on commentary for World Of Sport and the National Wrestling Alliance.

We knew he was sticking around for NXT Super Tuesday, as he didn’t want to miss the huge Fatal Four Way ironman match. However, reports from PWInsider show that Barrett is negotiating for a full time return to the company on commentary.

Former Wrestlers Make The Best Commentators

With a few exceptions here and there like Jim Ross, Mauro Ranallo and Tony Schiavone, the best wrestling commentators are the men who have previously stepped into the ring. They bring an air of legitimacy and insight into what is happening in the ring. Of course they know what a wrestler is thinking, as they’ve likely found themselves in that same situation.

Samoa Joe, Jerry Lawler, Chris Jericho, Booker T, JBL, Excalibur, Nigel McGuinness, Corey Graves, and now Wade Barrett are all proof of this within WWE & AEW. You’ll rarely find a desk without an experienced pro these days, as it’s an easy role for most to slip into when their body isn’t up to the task any longer, if they’re out long term with an injury, or simply want to stir the pot for a night and yell about Pineapple Pete.

Wade Barrett Could Find Himself On RAW or Smackdown

While Barrett made his return to WWE filing in for Mauro Ranallo down in NXT, and will help call the biggest match in the brands history? That might not be his home in WWE. Should he sign a deal with WWE, a likely spot for him is on either Monday Night RAW or Smackdown Live.

Barrett might have won the first season of NXT, but his career was spent on the WWE Main Roster, with him winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship five times. He’s been away for a few years, but is still a known entity to fans. Right now, Samoa Joe is on commentary for Monday Night RAW, but he’s still got a bit left in the tank as far as his in-ring career goes. Barrett would be the perfect man to fill the spot left by Joe when he returns to choking people out in the ring. However, until then, Barrett might just float around as needed in WWE, as so many tend to do.

Are you excited to hear more from Wade Barrett in WWE? Do you wish he stayed with the NWA? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
