Roman Reigns is back in WWE, after having returned following the main event of Summerslam. He made an instant impact, taking down both The Fiend & Braun Strowman and holding the WWE Universal Championship high in the air, making his intentions crystal clear. Reigns showed more aggression than ever before, and we know the reason for this now.
On the latest episode of Smackdown Live, the show would close with a revelation. That being that Roman Reigns has a new manager, and he’s now a Paul Heyman guy.
Roman Reigns Is Set To Be Smackdown’s Top Heel
First reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the current plan for Smackdown Live is to push Roman Reigns as the top heel. After years of fans rejecting Reigns as the top face of the company, WWE decided this return was the best possible time to finally turn him.
It’s better timing than his previous return, when he’d just beat leukemia for the second time, making him as popular as ever. That wave of popularity would fade, and things returned to the status quo of mixed reactions that lean towards negative.
With Paul Heyman by his side, and him using his naturally cocky charisma? Reigns will be a natural heel, something fans have recognized for years now, and that Reigns himself has likely been waiting for.
So Who Will Be The Top Face?
Smackdown Live currently is a very heel heavy show, with only a few picks for the babyface role. Other top names like Braun Strowman & AJ Styles are heels now, with Strowman settling back into that role over the past few weeks.
The Fiend was getting piped in cheers at Summerslam, and could play the role of an anti-hero character, comparisons made to someone like Venom from Marvel Comics. Big E is on a singles run currently and is gaining steam, and has always been widely popular with fans making him a natural fit. Otis has the Money in the Bank contract, and like Big E is widely popular, and has proven to be solid in the ring.
The only other good options are Daniel Bryan, who is moving to a more part-time role, Jeff Hardy who is Intercontinental Champion, and Matt Riddle who is just getting started on this round.
