G1 Climax 30 Night 16 highlights the penultimate night of B Block action as the campaign goes to the wire.
Tanahashi (Hontai) v Sanada (LIJ)
Eight-time former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and G1 Climax 17, G1 Climax 25, and G1 Climax 28 winner Hiroshi Tanahashi faces Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Sanada.
Tanahashi comes in with a disappointing 6 points despite his incredible performances, while Sanada comes in with 8 points and four straight victories in G1 Climax 30 B Block action.
Tanahashi comes into the match after being defeated by two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion and CHAOS member Hirooki Goto on G1 Climax 30 Night 14. While Sanada earned victory over former two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson.
A victory for Sanada over Tanahashi keeps him alive to advance to the finals, but he will have to defeat the always prepared Tanahashi.
Goto (CHAOS) v Evil (Bullet Club)
The CHAOS member Goto comes into the match with 8 points and very much alive in the conversation for a G1 Climax 30 Finals spot. He faces the former IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Evil who was able to defeat current ‘Double Champion’ LIJ leader Tetsuya Naito during G1 Climax 30 Night 14.
If Evil wins his final two matches, he will advance to his first G1 Climax finals. Goto will need to win out, and have Naito finish on 12 points to advance.
A win for Goto against Evil will provide him with a great deal of momentum going into his October 17th match against Juice Robinson.
Naito (LIJ) v Yano (CHAOS)
While current KOPW (presumably King of Pro Wrestling) titleholder Toru Yano faces current IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Tetsuya Naito.
Is Naito manages to win out, and Evil loses a match he will advance to the finals, while Yano will need a long list of results to get him to the finals even if he manages to win out.
Yano is coming off a loss to former NEVER Openweight Champion Kenta, while Naito suffered a tough loss to Evil.
ZSJ (Suzuki-Gun) v Juice (Hontai)
Former four-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed Heavyweight Champion and Suzuki-Gun member Zack Sabre Jr faces two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson.
Zack Sabre Jr is coming off a G1 Climax 30 Night 14 victory against CHAOS member Yoshi-Hashi, while Juice was defeated by LIJ member Sanada.
If Zack Sabre Jr wins out he has an opportunity to advance to the finals, while Juice is looking to build momentum against a formidable opponent.
Kenta v Yoshi-Hashi
Former NEVER Openweight Champion, New Japan Cup USA 2020 winner, and Bullet Club member Kenta faces CHAOS member Yoshi-Hashi. Both competitors are eliminated from finals contention, but have the opportunity to set themselves up for future title opportunities.
Kenta already has the V3 challenge in the second reign against IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley. However, he will want to finish G1 Climax 30 strong. While Yoshi-Hashi has put up great performances, he hasn’t been able to get the results he wants.
