The first G1 Climax 30 Night 17 headline match was key in determining who would go on to win the A Block. CHAOS members former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, G1 Climax 22 winner, and G1 Climax 24 winner “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada took on current Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay.
Ospreay came into the match with 10 points and coming off a tough loss to former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb during G1 Climax 30 Night 15, putting him in a difficult position to win the A Block.
Okada was sitting at 12 points and coming off a physical victory over fellow CHAOS member the former five-time NEVER Openweight Champion and two-time RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii.
The emotional match between two good friends saw Ospreay attempting to psyche himself up throughout saying aloud that he is just as good as Okada. Having never defeated Okada in singles competition, the match went beyond just being over G1 Climax glory.
Okada remained on top form, being able to deal with the questions Ospreay presented throughout, even when dealing with his supreme athleticism.
However, the match took a turn when former World Wonder Ring Stardom (Stardom) World of Stardom Champion, former Goddess of Stardom Champion (w/Jamie Hayter), current SWA World Champion, and Ospreay’s girlfriend Bea Priestly came to ringside.
Priestly would provide a distraction allowing for the returning New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Noge Dojo graduate “Dominator” Great-O-Khan to attack Okada, allowing Ospreay to gain the fall over his friend at the 17 minutes and 4 seconds with his Stormbreaker technique to eliminate Okada from G1 Climax 30 Finals contention.
After the match, Ospreay hit Okada with the Hidden Blade and shouted profanities towards him as he turned his back on CHAOS. How will Okada and the rest of CHAOS respond to another treacherous act?
