Moments After The Beginning Of The December 2nd, 2020 Best Of The Super Juniors 27 Match Between Douki And Yuya Uemura via New Japan Pro Wrestling

On December 2nd, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) from the Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan in front of 1,220 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was present during key parts of the night.

The opening series match of the event saw Suzuki-Gun member Douki face NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lion Yuya Uemura. Douki was coming into the match after dropping a fall to fellow Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado on November 29th, while Uemura was unable to defeat former two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Best of the Super Juniors 19 (2012) winner “Funky Weapon” Ryusuke Taguchi on the same night.

Douki and Uemura were already eliminated from contention to compete in the BOSJ 27 Finals, due to both coming into the contest without a victory during their campaigns. However, they showed a great deal of fighting spirit, neither wishing to relent to the other.

Once again, Uemura showed a great deal of potential giving Douki a fight throughout. However, it wouldn’t be enough as Douki would gain the fall at the 12 minutes and 54 seconds mark with his Suplex De La Luna technique.

The win moved Douki to (1-6) [2 points] while Uemura fell to (0-7) [0 points]. Despite their records, both wrestlers showed a great deal of progress in their form up to this point of the campaign.

Douki would go on to face Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Bushi on December 5th, while Uemura would face CHAOS member Sho on the same night.

With their remaining matches, both wrestlers wanted to establish themselves as future threats to the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Uemura is well positioned with an excursion looming on the horizon, which will allow him to gain valuable experience before returning to NJPW.
