This was a long time coming, but it’s finally time for WWE to say goodbye to the Thunderdome. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE has never halted their operations, but were forced behind closed doors and have had to run a bulk of their shows in empty arenas over the past year. However, as vaccine roll-out continues to be a success, it’s time for WWE to get on the roads.
25 City Tour Starts In Texas On July 16th, 2021
The news was broken by WWE themselves on the WWE Fox account, where they stated the following. “BREAKING NEWS: WWE returns to live events with a 25-city tour running through Labor Day. The tour starts with the July 16th Friday Night SmackDown at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX!” More information would come on Fox Sports website, where we learn that the Money in the Bank PPV will take place two days later in Fort Worth, Texas.
These will be the first WWE shows outside of Florida since an episode of Monday Night RAW in March 2020. Fans will be in attendance for these shows, which will certainly be the shot in the arm WWE needed. We only know the three dates in Texas, with an episode of Monday Night RAW in Dallas rounding out the start of the tour, but we can expect more in the coming days.
Hell In A Cell Will Be The Final WWE PPV Of The Thunderdome Era
This means that we are set to see the end of the Thunderdome era very soon. Hell in a Cell is set to take place from their current home in Florida, and will be the final PPV event before WWE gets back on the road. This is a smart call on the part of WWE, as live reports from previous Hell in a Cell PPV events note that it’s one of the worse gimmick matches for live viewers, as the cage will tend to obstruct the view of fans.
Hell in A Cell is usually held in the Fall, so WWE made a choice to run it closer to Wrestlemania this year. We could see one last hurrah for cinematic matches with Hell in a Cell, as those will become much less common as both WWE & AEW get back on the road.
