Earlier this year, we saw plenty of names cut from the WWE roster once again. Among them included big names like Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, and Peyton Royce. However, WWE wasn’t done letting people go. NXT releases were rumored for quite some time, but finally came today.
Drake Wuertz Was First To Go, And Fans Were Asking For This One
The first name reported to have been released from WWE today was referee Drake Wuertz. Formerly known as indie deathmatch wrestler Drake Younger, Wuertz was one of the top referees in NXT for years. However, as of late he’s been sucked into the complex web of issues that is QAnon, and even missed an episode of NXT to preach against wearing masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. He’s become a controversial figure for WWE over the past year, and it’s not shocking to see him finally let go.
Alexander Wolfe Came As A Shock, Seemed Set For Storyline
One name who was shocking to see cut was Alexander Wolfe. Last night on NXT, Wolfe was beaten in a match by Killian Dain, and was then cut from the faction Imperium. This seemed to be setting up a faction of Dain, Wolfe, and Drake Maverick, but instead it was the farewell moment for Wolfe in NXT. Wolfe had been in WWE since 2015, and most notably held the NXT Tag Team Championships alongside Killian Dain & Eric Young in Sanity. He’s already looking to set up indy dates.
Jake Clemons, Jessamyn Duke, Vanessa Bourne and More Also Cut
Another referee that was released today is Jake Clemons. Clemons hasn’t been with WWE long, and already has an indie booking. Jessamyn Duke was released from her in-ring contract, and the former MMA fighter is expected to stay with WWE to work on the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel.
Vanessa Bourne has been stuck in limbo between NXT & the main roster for a while now, and was likewise cut today. Kavita Devi, Skyler Story, and Ezra Judge were smaller names released, and it’s important to know that WWE generally won’t name strictly developmental talents that get cut.
Where do you expect these talents to land following these releases? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
