Paul Leblanc, who happens to be the father of Friends’ star Matt LeBlanc, has revealed he has not spoken to his son since 2011.
Friends’ Star Matt LeBlanc Has Not Spoken To His Father In Nine Years Since They Fell Out Over A Motorbike
The two have had a rocky relationship for a while, but the circumstances surrounding the fall out are trivial at first glance. Apparently, Matt had brought his father a motorbike. Rather than accepting the gift and enjoying it, Paul chose to donate it to his nephew. This did not go down too well with Matt, and by all accounts, this was when their relationship ended.
In an interview with The Sun, Paul said: “I’ve been living without any contact for nine years.. I’ve been cut off…over a humiliating argument about money and a motorbike.” Such a statement does look hard to believe, and one further inspection, there is more to this story. Matt’s father had allegedly left him and his mother at a young age.
And yet, now that Matt has gone on to become very successful in his own right, there are concerns that Paul is only interested in a reconciliation because of this. A spokesman on behalf of Matt confirmed as much: “To put this in perspective, Matt’s father abandoned Matt and his mother when he was an infant.”
Matt, for his part, did help out his father. He made sure that he had adequate housing and was looked after. However, following the onset of their argument, Matt did not offer any financial support. Consequently, Paul struggled to make ends meet and pay his bills. Paul made sure that everyone knew that.
He stated: “I’m an old man now, and I live off social security. If it wasn’t for my savings, I wouldn’t be able to survive.” So is there a chance of the two reuniting? Well, Paul has attempted to reach out via text. Sadly, Matt has not been receptive to his efforts.
While there is a lot of anger between the two, Paul is not getting any younger. And with the pandemic causing further uncertainty, it is now or never for the duo to reconcile. We will have to see how this will all play out.
