Noam Dar is an expert at getting himself in trouble in NXT UK. After being able to overcome Nathan Frazier in a British Rounds Match thanks to Sha Samuels, he’d get onto annoying someone else. He picked Ilja Dragunov, a man who has been prone to fits of uncontrollable rage following a brutal loss to WALTER. Now, Dar once again will eat his words as he takes Dragunov on one on one.
Noam Dar Finds An Injury To Exploit
Dragunov would be taken down to the mat as this match began, Dar looking to out wrestle him and keep this one from going to strikes. Dar looked for a kneebar, but was kicked off and we got a reset. Dragunov would miss a strike Dar before he’d take him down to the mat. He’d hold off from smashing Dar with some violent strikes, instead taking Dar back down with a high wristlock.
Dar went for some kicks to the leg of Dragunov, before he’d be caught and hit with a spinebuster into the mat. Dragunov would take some slaps to the face from Dar, and fired back with a chop to the throat. Dar would be taken down and have his arms trapped as Dragunov threw elbow strikes, but countered into a pinfall.
Dragunov looked for the Constantine Special as he was sent to the ropes, but slipped and took a kick to the chest. Dar would dropkick him off the apron, and Dragunov would land hard on his left knee. In the ring, Dar would get a one count but was in control and hit a violent snapmare into the ropes before stomping at the leg.
Dar Gets Taken Out Of The Sky By Ilja Dragunov
Dragunov would be relentlessly attacked, and Dar would be even finding time to talk some trash. Dar would pay for that and get taken down by Dragunov before he’d take chops to the back of the neck and a big knee strike to the jaw. Dragunov would lose control briefly as Dar went for the Omoplata, but he was able to counter.
Dar kicked Dragunov away, but took a heavy falling forearm strike before Dragunov took him down with a German Suplex. The knee was hampering his ability to hit the suplexes, so he’d move into some strikes before getting the Gotch Lift German Suplex. Dar & Dragunov would be slow to their feet, but when up would throw a flurry of strikes, with Dragunov dodging a lariat and hitting an enziguri.
Dragunov hit the Constantine Special for a two count, before going for the dive. Dar dodged and hit a lariat to the back of the head before going for the knee bar. Dragunov was just able to escape, and a kick to the leg kept him from regaining control.
Dar would fire Dragunov up with some trash talk, and quickly regret it as Dragunov went crazy with his strikes. He’d nail the Pumphandle Suplex for a two count. Dar was able to get a sneaky back elbow and looked for Nova Roller, but Dragunov intercepted with Torpedo Moscow for the win.
It took a while to get going, but once it did this was another NXT UK classic. Dar is so much better than he’s given credit for, and Dragunov is second only to WALTER in NXT UK. Once they hit their strides in this match, the action was crisp and exciting until the end. NXT UK has some of the best wrestling in WWE, and this one brought that and excellent character work as well. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)
