WWE is getting back to what we could reasonably consider normal. They kick off a tour across America on July 16th, hitting at least 25 different cities along the way. We know they’ll be holding Summerslam in Las Vegas, and that show is planned to be as big, if not bigger than Wrestlemania 37. However, we now know of another major supershow planned for later this year, as WWE is set to return to Saudi Arabia.
WWE To Return To Saudi Arabia In November 2021
This news comes from Wrestling Club, a Middle Eastern pro wrestling account that has been known to break reliable stories in the past, tweeted out to confirm WWE’s return to Saudi Arabia. When translated, their tweet stated the following. “The Entertainment Authority initially chooses the month of November to hold the next wrestling show in Saudi Arabia.”
WWE has a major deal with The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to run a certain amount of shows in the country over the next ten years. Given the state of the world and international travel, we only saw one Supershow in the country in 2020, notable for Goldberg defeating The Fiend to become Universal Champion. We will likely only see one in 2021 as well, unless WWE chooses to make this a two day event.
Poor Quality Has Become The Standard
However, this news has come with little excitement from fans. These Saudi Arabia supershows started out with their best one in The Greatest Royal Rumble, though it was all downhill from there. Major names like Daniel Bryan & John Cena refused to go to these shows following the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as well as smaller names like Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn.
Each show usually has about one good match now, generally involving Mansoor. Meanwhile the main event slots tend to feature nostalgia grabs like Goldberg. WWE even drug Shawn Michaels out of retirement for one last match that no one wanted. We will have to see what WWE has planned for this time around, as it could be as simple as a match between Roman Reigns & Brock Lesnar, which we’ve previously seen for these events.
