Starting in July, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) are getting back on the road. Since starting up their weekly TV show AEW Dynamite, they’ve run more shows in their home base of Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. They’re hoping to change that as they get back to moving. July sees events like Road Rager in Miami on July 7th, Fyter Fest in Cedar Park & Garland Texas on July 14th & 21st, and Fight For The Fallen in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 28th. However, they’ve just announced their biggest date on this tour for September.

AEW Will Run Their First Show Ever In New York State

While AEW planned a major show for Rochester in 2020, those plans were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that on Wednesday, September 21st they take their first steps into what many still view as WWE’s territory as they run Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York City.

Arthur Ashe Stadium is a tennis stadium, which should provide a unique set up for AEW to run, and Wikipedia lists it’s capacity around 23000 people. AEW are likely looking to sell around 15 to 20k tickets for this event, and it would be the first time the venue hosts a professional wrestling event.

Cody Rhodes Comments On AEW Doubters

There are some fans that doubt AEW will be able to move that many tickets, something very familiar for Cody Rhodes. Back in 2018 when he was helping to set up All In alongside The Young Bucks, ROH & NJPW, fans doubted they could sell out Sears Center. They sold all the tickets within half an hour.

So when pressed about ticket sales for AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, with user on Twitter saying “Good luck getting that many people in attendance.” Rhodes would simply respond with “I’ve been told this before.” It would be the biggest crowd yet for AEW ever assembled, making this an excellent test for how much buzz AEW was able to maintain through the pandemic.

Do you think AEW can sell out Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 21st? What matches do you hope to see at the event? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
