Hangman Page is the latest name to end up in a feud with Team Taz. Despite beating Brian Cage at Double or Nothing 2021, and then getting a tag team win alongside Preston Vance over Cage & Hobbs? Taz still isn’t impressed. So tonight, Page will take on Powerhouse Hobbs in a one on one clash to try and finally shut Taz up, something which is unlikely at this point of his career.
Hangman Page Goes Head To Head With Powerhouse Hobbs
They’d get in each other’s face to start this match, with Hobbs shoving Page into the corner. Taz on commentary would indicate that Hobbs is running alone tonight, and it was working to start as he got some heavy shoulder thrusts in the corner. Page used his speed to slip out and gain some space, before hitting a lariat.
Hobbs went Page over the top rope, and had the Buckshot Lariat scouted, slipping outside. Page followed and was driven into the barricade, before having his arm kicked into the barricade specifically. Hobbs would work over the arm more in the ring, and it was the arm used to hit the Buckshot Lariat.
A delayed vertical suplex and falling headbutt would set up a Vader Bomb, but he’d be met with a kick instead. Page took Hobbs into the corner for some punches, before being thrown into the ring post head first. More smart limb work from Hobbs as he pulled Page right into the post shoulder first. Page fought free and shoved Hobbs into the post, and worked to get this one back into the ring.
Team Taz Is Not Fine
A series of big boots to the face of Hobbs just pissed him off, but being tripped over the ropes and a slingshot lariat took him down for a vaulting body press. Back in the ring he’d hit a moonsault, before looking for a German Suplex on Hobbs. Hobbs held his weight down and nailed a body block to shut Page down, before an arm trap scoop slam. Page dodged a falling headbutt off the second rope, and uncorked a huge lariat for a two count.
Hobbs blocked the Deadeye and hit a running crossbody, getting a two count. Hook & Starks were at ringside with the FTW Championship, belonging to Brian Cage. Cage would come to get Starks, as Hobbs blocked the Buckshot Lariat into the spinebuster, but only got a two count. Page dodged a lariat and hit the deadlift German Suplex and the Deadeye, getting the win over Hobbs!
Not quite as good as the match that Page had with Brian Cage at Double or Nothing, but it was a simple but heavy hitting brawl. We got some more tension from Team Taz, and one more big win for Page on his way to an eventual AEW World Championship match. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
