Back at 19th Anniversary, Matt Taven & Vincent went back to their roots for a brutal empty arena cinematic brawl through the wrestling school they started at. It ended in a no-contest, when a mysterious but hulking figure stepped into the mix. Dutch would shove them off a balcony through some tables, before scooping Vincent up and showing his allegiance to The Righteous.
Tonight he makes his in-ring debut, as he faces ‘The Trend’ Matt Taven. Matt Taven has done it all in this company, winning the ROH Tag Team, TV, Trios and World Championships, but can he square up to someone like Dutch?
Vita Von Star Gives Up Her Chance At Gold For The Righteous
There would be no Code of Honor in this match, as Taven just hit the ring and started throwing hands. Dutch shoved him off, before blocking a single leg takedown and some clubbing blows. Taven went for a DDT, and was chucked halfway across the ring with ease. Going to the apron, Taven would try to launch himself over, only to be run through by Dutch. Dutch grabbed a rear chinlock on the mat before choking Taven across the bottom rope.
Some heavy blows in the corner beat Taven down, before sending him across the ring. An up and over attempt from Taven was caught in a powerslam attempt, and while Taven wiggled free and hit a dropkick to the jaw, Dutch just shrugged it off. One overhand palm strike from Dutch sent Taven to the mat, and after a quick commercial break, he’d send Taven over the top with a heavy lariat.
Vita Von Starr would risk her spot in the upcoming ROH Women’s Championship tournament by hopping onto the back of Taven for a chokehold, before Maria Kannelis Bennett would come to ringside to inform her that she’s out. She was told that getting involved in mens matches would have this impact, as Maria needs people focused on Women’s Wrestling.
Matt Taven Almost Had Dutch Beat
Back in the ring, Dutch would slowly lift Taven to his feet, and grab a rear waist lock. Taven tried to counter by Dutch was faster and as Taven rotated, he fed himself into a big vertical suplex attempt from Dutch. Taven countered and dodged a big boot, before sending Dutch to the outside with a spinning heel kick. Dutch rolled to the outside, and Taven would take him down twice with dives to the outside.
Rolling him back into the ring, Taven would hit his Aurora Borealis Frog Splash, a proven finishing move, and Dutch kicked out at one and sent Taven flying. Climax was countered, and so was a springboard cutter, as Dutch set up his spinning sidewalk slam, before Taven countered into Climax. Dropping the big man on his head might have done it, but Vincent was back and wearing a stolen suit, and lured Taven out.
An attack from Bateman & Von Starr would finally have the referee call for the bell, until Bennett tried to make the save. Bennett & Taven were outnumbered, especially as Dutch got back up. The security would swarm the ringside area, and end this assault. Vincent never had to get physical to beat Taven on this night.
However, Vincent would say he does want to fight. Just not right now. Will we ever get this Fight Without Honor? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
