When it comes to WCW Legends being represented well within WWE, no one has gotten treated as well as Goldberg. While his first run in the company in the mid 2000’s left a lot to be desired, his latest run has seen him claim multiple world championships and constantly be brought in as a major threat. We last saw him earlier this year when he faced Drew McIntyre in a fast paced brawl for the WWE Championship, and this Monday, we could be seeing him once again.
Goldberg Is Set To Return On Monday Night RAW
As first reported by Fightful, WWE has planned to bring Goldberg back into the mix this Monday. It will be the first Monday Night RAW with a live audience in over a year, so WWE is planning on making sure it’s a memorable one. Goldberg is expected to return and lay down a challenge to current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. This match is expected to take place next month at Summerslam.
Fans were hoping for Brock Lesnar to return and have the highly anticipated match with Lashley, but that no longer seems to be the case. Without Brock in the mix, Lashley really lacks a credible challenger for Summerslam, barring a return of The Fiend. Drew McIntyre is no longer able to challenge Lashley, and fans would likely be fairly upset with seeing that match done once again. Kofi Kingston has been built up recently, but is not viewed by WWE as a current contender.
His Current Contract Is For Two Matches In A Year
Right now, it’s well known that the current contract of Goldberg in WWE has him set to wrestle two matches in a year. That allows WWE to bring him out around Wrestlemania & Summerslam, two times when they look to bring in some extra fan attention. Earlier this year, he faced Drew McIntyre, and now it’s time for his second match.
A clash with Lashley & Goldberg is something that can be good. They both are powerhouses who use the spear as a signature move, and that alone could be the basis for the storyline. It’s unlikely they let Goldberg win the championship considering he’s only set for one more match this year, but WWE could have something up their sleeve.
