When Edge made his return in 2020 at the Royal Rumble, we all knew he’d be chasing more world championships. He won the 2021 Royal Rumble after starting the match, but with Daniel Bryan added to his Wrestlemania main event, his odds of winning were lower. However, he recently confronted Roman Reigns and now gets the one on one shot he feels he deserved in the first place. Edge has the experience edge, and more big match experience, but can he beat a dominant champion in the prime of his career?

Edge Picks His Body Part To Target

Reigns was as cocky as ever as he made his way to the ring, while Edge was laser focused. Not on Reigns, but on the WWE Universal Championship. This one had a big match feel before the bell even rang, a proper main event for the capacity crowd. There were dueling “Let’s go Roman” & “Lets go Edge” chants, just adding to the atmosphere of the situation.

Reigns would shove Edge into the corner, before Edge fired back and did the same with an added slap to the face. Edge got a waistlock and took Reigns to the mat, and slapped him in the back of the head this time. He’d hear that Edge can do it all day, and we are seeing the man who beat Cena, Batista, Triple H, Undertaker and more.

However, Reigns nailed a shoulder tackle and sent Edge tumbling to the outside. He’d let Edge get back into the ring, and take some armbreakers before Edge really focused on the shoulder. Reigns fought free with a right hand between the eyes, before hitting some clubbing lariats in the corner. Edge blocked and went after the arm again, before throwing Reigns into the corner posts.

He’d wrestle Reigns to the mat, and force the champion to leave the ring and regroup. Back in the ring, Edge kicked the arm and hit a knee to the back to send Reigns back outside. Edge would follow and be dropped, with Reigns breaking the first ten count before deciding he might take the second.

    Roman Reigns Assumes Control

Edge would get back into the ring, only to be stomped out by Reigns in the corner. Reigns has assumed control and bludgeoned Edge in the middle of the ring with some downward forearm strikes. Edge would be thrown right into the ringpost, as a chorus of “Roman sucks” chants rained down onto the ring. Reigns was relishing the moment, and that Edge wanted this beating.

He’d nail a vertical suplex and take a two count, before applying a side headlock. Edge was trapped in tight, and had no way to get free but to break the grip of The Tribal Chief. He’d get fired up, only to be dropped down with an uppercut. Reigns went outside and nailed the Drive-By dropkick, only getting a two count.

Edge would dodge the superman punch into a backslide for a two count. They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, with Edge ducking and hitting the reverse slam for a two count. The falls are getting closer and more frantic, and Edge nailed a lariat. Reigns hit the ropes and took a flapjack and Impaler DDT for the two.

Reigns would be set up on the top rope, before Edge hit a bulldog and hit Reigns face off the top and took him down. The crossface would be applied, and Reigns would have to crawl to the ropes because he couldn’t break the hold.

Edge would set up the spear but Reigns caught him in the guillotine choke. Reigns would have to hold on tight, and Edge started to fade quickly. He’d force forward, and send them tumbling to the outside.

A Thrilling Fight Until The End

On the outside, Reigns would look to slam through the barricade with a spear, before Edge dodged. Edge would stop the referee’s count, knowing he has to win in the ring. Reigns was run through a second barricade with a spear of his own, before hefting him up and pulling him to the ring.

Edge got the pin, but Reigns was able to recover enough from the floor to the ring to get a shoulder up at two. The crowd was 100% behind Edge at this point, before looking for an Impaler. Reigns resisted, and Edge would be knocked into the referee off a Superman Punch. The referee hurt his knee, and Reigns knew this was his chance.

He’d break a chair leg off, and Edge would have to fight off the chair leg crossface he’s used on Reigns. Edge knew how to resist, fought free and applied the hold himself. This is the hold that Reigns feared, but The Usos were here to help, but The Mysterios ran defense to keep this one clean. Seth Rollins came in and superkicked Edge out of spite, breaking the hold.

Reigns would get up and set up the spear, checking his jaw along the way. That delay would allow Edge to counter with a spear of his own, but the new referee wouldn’t get in fast enough. Rollins got involved again, and Reigns hit the spear for the win as Edge was distracted. He’s never been pushed this far.

Roman Reigns has been having perhaps the best World Championship run we’ve seen in WWE in a very long time, and matches like this are why. It was some gripping action from bell to bell, with a great story told along the way, even setting up Edge’s next match. This was as good as expected, and now the reign continues. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)

After the bell, Rollins would stomp out Edge, before confronting his former Shield partner. That was a lifetime ago, and Rollins is ready to prove he’s still better. However, Edge would brawl it out with Rollins after being screwed. Now with a chance to address the crowd, Roman took the microphone and said now the whole world can acknowledge him.

The music of John Cena would hit, and Big Match John was back! He’d hit the ring to a massive ovation from the fans, and would stare the Tribal Chief down to close the show out. Can Reigns beat Cena? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
