When it comes to up and coming women’s wrestlers, Rachael Ellering has as much potential as anyone else in the industry. A second generation wrestler, with her father Paul Ellering being better known as a manager but was a trained wrestler, there was a lot of pressure on Ellering to succeed. With a heavy link to the iconic Road Warriors tag team, with her dad being their longtime manager, she never wanted to use their image… until Impact Homecoming.
The gimmick of Impact: Homecoming was a tournament of mixed tag team matches. We got some expected duos like Crazzy Steve & Rosemary of Decay, Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green, and Petey Williams & Jordynne Grace. There was a surprise debut in Matthew Rehwoldt (formerly Aiden English) joining Deonna Purrazzo, and a fun pairing of Racheal Ellering & Tommy Dreamer who played the role of The Road Warriors.
Rachael Ellering Did Hawk & Animal Proud Alongside Tommy Dreamer
This was the first time Ellering ever used their imagery, and she would speak about this on an instagram & twitter post.
“Thank you all so much for the love tonight! For my entire 5-year career, I’ve avoided doing anything Road Warrior related because I wanted to forge my own path, be known for my own work and successes. Knowing how much Tommy loves not only pro wrestling, but the Road Warriors, this was the perfect time to rock the face paint and bust out a Doomsday. I missed the fans and their energy so much!
I couldn’t stop smiling (What’s new) and haven’t had that much fun in a ring in far too long. Thank you so much, Tommy, for being the Animal to my Hawk. I know both of them are looking down on us and are filled with pride, I often reflect and wonder what my uncle Hawk would think of me. I could feel his smile tonight as I came off the top rope just like he did. I love you and miss you every single day. Tonight was a rush indeed.”
Dreamer & Ellering would win their first match of the night against Brian Myers & Missy Hyatt using the Doomsday Device, before falling to Decay in the semi-finals. It was a fun one night tribute for sure, and it’s nice to see Ellering comfortable enough in her progress as a wrestler to be willing to do this.
