With the NXT UK Championship set to be a focal point of the coming NXT Takeover, it’s high time that NXT UK picked their pace up once again. A great way to get things moving for the brand has always been a tournament, and that’s where we’re at this week. The tournament to name a new top contender for Tyler Bate and his Heritage Cup championship has started, with the first match happening on this week’s main event.
Other Major Happenings Included Two Titles Matches Set For Next Week
This week was also used to set up an even bigger show for next week, as is tradition with NXT UK on occasion. There was two title matches announced, those being NXT UK Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly taking on Moustache Mountain, and NXT Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura taking on Stevie Turner. These are both set to be must see matches, especially Pretty Deadly vs. Moustache Mountain, as those are two of the best tag teams in all of WWE.
Looking to build momentum for the tournament, Wolfgang of Gallus was in singles action against Flash Morgan Webster of SUBCULTURE in the opening match. Webster hoped to chop the big scot down, but in the end he fell to a vicious spear from Wolfgang in just 7 minutes and 31 minutes. In women’s action, we would see Amale pick up a win over Nina Samuels in just under 5 minutes. Amale is really gaining steam, and could be ready for a title shot soon.
Noam Dar Defeats Mark Andrews In First Round Action
The main event saw the start of tournament action with Noam Dar taking on Mark Andrews of Subculture. First round saw a lot of trash talk and submission attempts, but no falls. Dar took control in the second round, but was unable to get a fall despite his best efforts. Round three saw Teoman and Rohan Raja come to ringside to get a closer look at the match, as Dar snatched a Kneebar for the first fall of the match.
Andrews sensed the urgency of the situation and was able to counter another kneebar attempt in round four to roll up Dar and get a pinfall to even the score. As this one wrapped up in the final round, Andrews went high risk and paid for it, as Dar was able to avoid and nail the Nova Roller kick for the win. Dar will face the winner of Kenny Williams vs. Oliver Carter next.
